Participatory action research methodology

Participatory Action Research methodology involves:

  • conducting research with affected people rather than on them.
  • involving people from the communities we are studying as co-researchers and agents of change.
  • strengthening communication and mutual respect among those involved in health systems including service providers, planners and the affected communities.
  • continuous cycle of observing (including assessment), planning, acting and reflecting (through monitoring and evaluation).

Building community relationships is part of the participatory action research method. This photograph was taken after a meeting in Ruldu Bhatta, attended by community members, community leaders as well as government officials.
